I saw this guy meandering around in the rocks. He stopped perched on this rock and was just tall enough to catch the light as the sun was setting.

While waiting for my car brakes to get done, we wandered around Corde Madera near the waterfront. We saw this duck trudging its was through the mud. It wasn't hurt, but yet it didn't fly in favor of walking. You could hear its feet splat in the mud step by step.

Taken a couple of years back, very early in the morning as storms and the ducks made their way across Lake Superior. I just liked the subtlety of the picture. The ducks were completely silent as they went along while the distant storms rumbled. It felt like I was watching a funeral procession.

We spent the next couple weeks in a house on the shores of Lake Superior. We lived like small town folks. It was an awesome and super relaxing experience.

Another picture from the past weekend in Minnesota. Everytime I go there I am drawn to take pictures around the river. I say "around" because it isn't really about taking picture of the river itself, but rather the atmosphere and life surrounding it. In a lot of ways the Mississippi reminds me of walking down railroad tracks. You see the backyards and hidden things of places, not the pristine front that faces the road. Here's where weeds grow, fallen trees remain and ducks are free to go about their business.

We went drove down to LA last weekend and stayed with one of Ocala's Aunts and her boyfriend. Ocala's sister recently moved to LA and is staying in a RV in the driveway. All in all, she is getting an interesting/authentic experience of California. In addition to having a mountain view out the windows of the RV, the house and property were once owned by an older couple who had a fondness for birds. In fact, half the property is occupied by various kinds of bird cages and wild peacocks now roam about. There were also several orphaned flights of overgrown stairs that seem like they once lead you to beautiful gardens. I was lucky enough to get a shot with both the stairs and a peacock.

This male had just finished his courtship dance and was moving off. An interesting thing to note is that the display is not only visual but also auditory. When he fluttered his feathers it made a sound that was a cross between a hum and an alarmed rattlesnake. Its too bad the property is rented and going to be leveled to build condos at some point this year.

On a site management note... I have decided to screen comments to before they appear on the site.. not to censor anyone's opinion, but to guard against comment-spamming.. this site keeps getting filled up with it. After trying several php security measures I am going with the screening process. I feel bad that people won't see their posts up right away, but its that or have them surrounded by junk mail. :( Please don't let it discourage you from giving feedback, I appreciate it immensely.

Well there goes my New Year's resolution. "I am gonna post everyday", I told myself. Its not like I am gonna run out of photos..

This was a picture I took while I lived in Spokane and hiked down by Riverside Park. This male was keeping an eye on his family across the river. The area around their nest had been ravaged by a forest fire a few years before.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. It will probably be that way for a little while. Work has had me really busy and I haven't had time to go out and shoot anything. Things should calm down soon.

The babies have hatched and are growing quickly.

Shot this today, five days after the one above. Now that they have their feathers growing in they have been spending today stretching their wings. Won't be long before they are off.

Its the most awesome thing. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that a mourning dove has chosen a pot on our steps/entryway to nest. I was astounded when I first saw it. We just sat there a foot away from one another blinking in silence. Our neighbor who shares the same steps says that the same thing happened last year and they had three hatchlings. For now we are all just careful not to disturb it with all our comings and goings.

It was an overcast day, so I don't think the photos turned out so well, but I did like this shot of all the birds in flight. No birds were harmed or photoshop-ed in during the making of this shot. : )
