We spent the next couple weeks in a house on the shores of Lake Superior. We lived like small town folks. It was an awesome and super relaxing experience.

We have spent the last couple of weeks getting back into normal life and dreaming of the quieter days.

This is a shot from the Split Rock Lighthouse grounds looking south down the shoreline. I thought it was pretty indicative of the North Shore's geography.

Whenever I see a lighthouse the thing that fascinates me the most is the lens that focuses the light. The Fresnel lens made light houses range much greater and also helped pave the way for photography lenses. We also use some of the same techniques in my 3d work to approximate proper reflections and lighting.

This is another shot from the Split Rock Lighthouse. It is the climb up to where the lens is held. I don't really think its the prettiest photo, but the contrasts in it held my interest. The geometric contrasts of the square bricks and window against the elegant arch of the stairs. Its a bunch of squares and rectangles trying to exist in cylindrical world of the lighthouse.

The lighting is also in contrast and is what initiated the photo. The warm light from the sun coming in the window and the cool glare on the bricks from the blue sky visible above.
