I thought I would start the new year off right, so here is one of my favorite pictures. The picture felt appropriate given that most of the country is shrouded in winter. We just got back from Minnesota yesterday. It was interesting seeing the change in climate. When I left San Jose it was 60 degrees.. and when I arrived in Minneapolis it was a whopping -23 degrees with the wind chill. I snapped this shot while on a train going back to Spokane a few years back. Even though I love the picture it didn't quite capture the magic of the moment.. the hill was practically glowing when I took it. Happy New Year Everyone!

Now for something a little warmer. I took this a couple of weeks ago on the way back from LA. I was looking through my pictures while I was in Minneapolis.. and this one reminded me of the warm California that I was eager to get back to.

Well there goes my New Year's resolution. "I am gonna post everyday", I told myself. Its not like I am gonna run out of photos..

This was a picture I took while I lived in Spokane and hiked down by Riverside Park. This male was keeping an eye on his family across the river. The area around their nest had been ravaged by a forest fire a few years before.

I find myself getting pulled in so many directions lately. I have photos to take, 3d characters to model, 3d environments to make, tools to program, c++ to learn, and several stories that have been brewing in my head to write. Its like having children.. you don't want to neglect any of them... but then concentrating on all of them means you spend little time on any of them. So you lock them all up down in the basement just to be fair. : )

This shot was taken years ago with one of my old point and shoots. It has always meant a lot to me. I grew up traveling down tracks like these and yet the first time I walked these tracks it was a new adventure. I had never really lived in a big city before, much less hiked around one... and I was just getting to know Ocala. These tracks are "her" tracks... the ones she grew up around.

We took the BART and the MUNI, parts of San Francisco's train system, to go see a art show at Giant Robot. It was made up of a variety of artists all doing work based on the theme of "tree". As with every trip to a Giant Robot store, there were lots of magazines/figures I wanted to buy. Unlike usual, I managed to resist as I am dirt poor until work starts.

<previous January 19 2005 - 01 Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Near Boulder Creek, CAnext>
I went hiking out Big Basin Redwoods State Park yesterday. There were two ultra large trees, one named "Mother of the Forest" and the other, "Father of the Forest". "Mother" was the supposedly the tallest redwood in the area, while the "Father" had a large diameter. All of the trees in the area were gigantic. It was fun and refreshing to get out.

One of the interesting things about Big Basin is that the woods were so shaded and saturated that the sunlit areas were steaming. As I first got out of the car I saw wisps of steam coming up from the parking lot and took a bunch of pictures thinking it was a one time thing. I laughed when I realized it was happening all over the place.
